This hand blown glass Starfish Urn has a blown glass lid and two aqua starfish fused to the side of the vessel.  The color of the vessel is a mixture of colors called Tide Pool Green.  It measures about 11 inches tall and 6.5 inches wide.

A wonderful addition to any home. A unique way to light up a room, with starfish giving a finishing touch. Using classic glass blowing techniques a soft Amber colored glass is blown over white giving a soft glow when illuminated. Standing about 17 inches high and 8 inches wide.

This hand blown glass platter was created by first rolling a molten clear bubble of glass over multiple rods of black glass. The next is another layer of molten clear glass is gathered on the bubble, it is blown into a sphere, and the a molten bit of clear is dropped on the bottom to create a foot for the platter. The final move is to put another metal rod on the bottom, brake off the blow pipe, and spin the sphere into a large flat plate. It is then quickly dropped over a wok to give it the bowl-like form. When finished the platter is place into a 950 degree oven to cool slowly overnight.

This platter measures about 17 inches wide. The photo is the exact platter that will be shipped to you.

This black glass hat and green glass apple are inspired by the painting created by Margritte, “The Son Of Man”. The painting is the most iconic image of the surrealism movement. A self-portrait painting of a man in an overcoat and a black “bowler” hat standing in front of a wall with a green apple obstructing his view.
Using classic glass blowing techniques, a perfect green apple is placed on top a classic black colored glass hat. This glass sculpture is about 8 inches wide and 9.5 inches in height.

This Tide Pool Amber Anemone Vase consists of an alternating pattern of tide pool green seaweed-like strips of color and anemone murrine. The amber and white murrine surround a clear lens of glass, creating optical windows in which you can see the inside of the vase. 

It measures about 11.25" height and 6.5" in diameter.

Unique color patterns are added to the glass, then it is stretched into pencil thick cane. After cooling for a day, the cane is cut to reveal cross sections about a quarter inch long. Finally, the cane is arranged on a hot plate to be melted into the starfish.

When the glass is hot, John lets the molten glass fall over the edge of a metal table, capturing the moment when the starfish is creeping away, just like it clings to rocks in the ocean.

It is about 5" in diameter.

This is one of my latest vases in my Anemone Series. I call this piece Tide Pool Anemone Vase. I am inspired by the patterns and movements of the ocean. This vase is made up of over 100 small colorful pieces that I make called murrine. Murrine are created by layering colored glass from the center outward. This layering of colors created a molten piece of glass about the size of a soup can that I stretch across the studio to create a 1/2 to 3/4 inch rod. We then put the rods in the annealing oven to cool over night. The next day we slice the rods onto 1/4 inch wafers that get laid out on a ceramic kiln shelf into a mosaic like arrangement. The wafers are heated and fused together into a rectangular piece of glass. A blowpipe is then rolled along the edge and the flat sheet of glass turns into a cylinder. The bottom gets closed off and now there is a bubble of glass on the end of my blow pipe.

Layers of molten clear are gathered onto the bubble and it is blown and shaped with the help of my assistant into the vase pictured.

The vase is pictured with lights in front and behind to accentuate all the color possibilities of the vase in your home.

Hand sculpted glass starfish. This Tide Pool Green Starfish is one of my most popular sea stars. It is created with three layers of color on the bottom of the starfish, and a thick layer of clear glass added to the top, making the starfish optical and appear almost wet. It looks as though it was just pulled from the tide pool.

Flat starfish will rest on a flat surface with no legs bent over the side. Creeping starfish have two bent legs, capturing the moment when the starfish is creeping away, just like it clings to rocks in the ocean.

This hand blown glass platter was created by first rolling a molten clear bubble of glass through a mixture of colored glass chunks that are about the size of rock salt. The next step is to blow the bubble into a aluminum optic mold that has 12 triangular ribs on the inside of it. The ribbed bubble is heated and twisted to create the vortex spiral. Another layer of molten clear glass is gathered on the bubble, it is blown into a sphere, and the a molten bit of clear is dropped on the bottom to create a foot for the platter. The final move is to put another metal rod on the bottom, brake off the blow pipe, and spin the sphere into a large flat plate. It is then quickly dropped over a wok to give it the bowl-like form. When finished the platter is place into a 950 degree oven to cool slowly overnight.

This platter measures about 14.25 inches wide. The photo is the exact platter that will be shipped to you.

This hand sculpted glass starfish was created by John Gibbons of Eureka California. This art glass starfish measures about 8 inches in diameter (from the longest two legs across).

I try to capture the essence of the starfish in a tide pool. The starfish is created with the color pattern on the bottom of the starfish that gets magnified from the thick layer of optical clear glass on the top, making the starfish almost look wet. The pattern on this particular star is called Murrine, an Italian glass technique where I take a glass cane (long rod of glass) and cut it in cross-sections to reveal a pattern that mimics the natural texture of the starfish in the wild. People have also said that it looks like barnacles on the starfish.

This amazingly bright starfish measures about 5.5 inches across and has bent legs for gripping the edge of a bookshelf or desk.  I use the bit of scrap created from my Rainbow Vases to create these eye popping starfish.

The Vertigo Bottle is a switch-axis glass vase with spiraling cane twisting in opposite directions. This hand blown glass vase was created by rolling the glass rods onto a bubble of molten glass and then rotating the glass bubble 90 degrees, which causes the spiral to go from the bottom to the side. Then the vase is flattened with thick cork paddles to enhance the optics of the two opposing spirals. 

It measures about 7.75” width x 12” height.

This blown glass vase by John Gibbons is 17 inches tall and 7.5 inches wide. He developed the “Vertigo Series” after realizing the optical and dizzying effects that putting colored canes of glass in a vase can have. Walking past the vase and looking at it really brings this movement to life. It’s called moire effect and it is fun to play with.

John first pulls soup can sized blobs of colored glass into pencil thick canes that stretch across the room up to 30 feet long! The rods are then cut into 4 inch lengths and laid side by side on a ceramic kiln shelf. They are then heated, squeezed together and rolled up on to a molten bubble on the end of a blow pipe and blown and shaped into a vase.
