This hand blown glass spiral bowl measures 9.75 inches wide and 4.5 inches tall. John signed the bottom of this one of a kind piece.

This hand blown glass platter was created by first rolling a molten clear bubble of glass through a layer of Aqua Blue glass powder. The next step is to blow the bubble into a aluminum optic mold that has 12 triangular ribs on the inside of it. The ribbed bubble is heated and twisted to create the vortex spiral. Another layer of molten clear glass is gathered on the bubble, it is blown into a sphere, and the a molten bit of clear is dropped on the bottom to create a foot for the platter. The final move is to put another metal rod on the bottom, brake off the blow pipe, and spin the sphere into a large flat plate. It is then quickly dropped over a wok to give it the bowl-like form. When finished the platter is place into a 950 degree oven to cool slowly overnight.

This hand blown glass spiral bowl is a bright aqua and pale green with a hint of sparkle in it. The bowl measures 10 inches wide and 5 inches tall. John signed the bottom of this one of a kind piece.

Not every glass piece turns out perfect, but certainly always beautiful. This one of kind bowl just got a little too hot in the shop causing a slight imperfection in the shape. Using classic glass blowing techniques, aqua blue and white colored glass are shaped into a footed bowl. Measuring about 10.25 inches wide and 6 inches in height, this piece will surely be a conversation starter.
