This hand blown glass vase was created by rolling colorful glass rods onto a bubble of molten glass. After making this vase it reminded of a circus tent, hence the name.

This Tide Pool Green Amber Anemone Bowl is a hand blown glass bowl by John Gibbons. It has alternating lines of tide pool green cane and amber murrine that twist around a clear glass bowl. The spiral converges at the center of the bowl, creating a vortex of color. 

It measures 13" diameter x 4" height.

The vase measures about 11.5 inches tall and 8.5 inches wide.

I am inspired by the patterns and movements of the ocean. This vase is made up of small colorful pieces that I make called murrine. Murrine are created by layering colored glass from the center outward. This layering of colors created a molten piece of glass about the size of a soup can that I stretch across the studio to create a 1/2 to 3/4 inch rod. We then put the rods in the annealing oven to cool over night. The next day we slice the rods onto 1/4 inch wafers that get laid out on a ceramic kiln shelf into a mosaic like arrangement. The wafers are heated and fused together into a rectangular piece of glass. A blowpipe is then rolled along the edge and the flat sheet of glass turns into a cylinder. The bottom gets closed off and now there is a bubble of glass on the end of my blow pipe. Three layers of molten clear and gathered onto the bubble and it is blown and shaped with the help of my assistant into the vase pictured.

Hand sculpted glass starfish. The Aqua Sahara Starfish is created with a beige and aqua color pattern on the bottom that gets magnified from the thick optical layer of clear glass on the top. This starfish has a wide variety in color patterns. 

Choose between Flat and Creeping Styles. When the glass is hot, John lets the molten glass fall over the edge of a metal table, capturing the moment when the starfish is creeping away, just like it clings to rocks in the ocean.

It is about 5" in diameter.

This 21 inch tall aqua vase was inspired by sunken vessels from the bottom of the Mediterranean Sea. For thousands of years ships have been crossing the sea on trade routes from Roam to Athens to Cairo. The vase has been adorned with starfish, seaweed and a bit of gold leaf.

A perfect gift for yourself or that special someone. Inspired by the colors found at sea this beauty is a show stopper. The height is about 6 inches in height and about 3.5 inches wide.
This is a one of kind piece. The vase is inspired by the colors of the ocean as well as the creatures found at sea. When the ocean currents swirl and move you see colors mix and blend highlighting a beautiful aquatic palette. Using traditional glass blowing techniques, this vase is blown, formed, shaped and brings perfect color to a home or office.

This sculpted glass sea turtle measures about 10 inches at its widest and about 14.25 inches tall. The shell and fins are made just like my starfish, with a thick layer of clear glass on top of a thin layer of organic colored glass on the bottom. I call this a barnacle back turtle, because of the 3-D barnacle like pieces of glass in the shell of the turtle. The base of the turtle is a very thick creating undulating and optical colors. I have been working with glass for 20 years and have fixated on ocean creatures for the past 10.

This large marble measures about 1.5 inches and is inspired by tube sponges in the coral reef. The colors that form the tubes in the marble are created by layering rods of glass and then stretching the rods into another rod that is then cut into short sections called murrine. After the murrine are formed, I put the coral reef together and finish off the marble in a graphite mold to give it a perfect sphere shape.

This round vase is inspired by the stripes found at a circus, the colors are aqua, peach, and black. The clear in-between the colors, creates an optical strobing pattern when you look at the vase. We start by rolling up canes of color over a bubble of clear molten glass and then we begin blowing and shaping with gravity and newspaper.

Approximate Dimensions: W: 10.25″ x H: 11.25″

This one of a kind beautiful marble is about 2.5 inches in size. The sphere captures a swirl of blue and a beautiful white  color glass in the moment. Soft white and blue are twisted  to create a spiral form. A graphite mold shapes the glass into a perfect sphere. The photo is a representation of what the marble will look like.

This medium-sized marble measures about 2.5 inches and is inspired by a rainbow. I start by using long rods of different colored glass, which are then rolled up onto a solid mass of molten clear glass. Next, it is twisted into a spiral pattern and shaped with a mold into a marble.

This hand blown glass platter was created by first rolling a molten clear bubble of glass through a layer of Aqua Blue glass powder. The next step is to blow the bubble into a aluminum optic mold that has 12 triangular ribs on the inside of it. The ribbed bubble is heated and twisted to create the vortex spiral. Another layer of molten clear glass is gathered on the bubble, it is blown into a sphere, and the a molten bit of clear is dropped on the bottom to create a foot for the platter. The final move is to put another metal rod on the bottom, brake off the blow pipe, and spin the sphere into a large flat plate. It is then quickly dropped over a wok to give it the bowl-like form. When finished the platter is place into a 950 degree oven to cool slowly overnight.

These hand-blown glass light pendants were created by rolling the clear molten glass through several colors of powdered glass. It is then blown into a bronze mold called a pineapple mold to give it the pattern of bubbles trapped in the glass. After it comes out of the mold another layer of molten clear glass is put on top of the bubble, and it is blown and shaped by hand with wet newspaper to become a perfectly shaped shade.

This beautiful pendant is about six inches in height and about six inches wide.

This bell measures 7.75" diameter and is 4.75" tall.

I experimented with a few bells, there is a hole at the top of this bell for the clapper/uvula to be attatched.
