This hand blown glass vase was created by rolling colorful glass rods onto a bubble of molten glass. After making this vase it reminded of a circus tent, hence the name.

This Tide Pool Green Amber Anemone Bowl is a hand blown glass bowl by John Gibbons. It has alternating lines of tide pool green cane and amber murrine that twist around a clear glass bowl. The spiral converges at the center of the bowl, creating a vortex of color. 

It measures 13" diameter x 4" height.

This Starfish Lamp Base has a warm glow and three clinging starfish on its sides. This base measures 12.5 inches tall by 6 inches wide. I am selling this piece as is. It does not light up but can be utilized into your own design or do it your self project. I can also plug the bottom with epoxy if you wish to use it as a vase. It can also be used as a decorative vessel on a shelf or mantle.

There is a small 1/2 inch hole in the bottom of this piece.

Inspired by ancient Grecian vessels that were discovered in the depths of the Mediterranean Sea. Each clinging starfish, is hand sculpted with a thick layer of clear glass applied over the color, making the starfish appear wet.

A blow pipe is then rolled along the edge of the glass to form a cylinder. The bottom of the cylinder is closed, which creates a bubble, allowing the glass to then be blown and shaped into the vase. Gibbons uses the optical properties of glass to create a magnifying-glass effect in which the pattern undulates when viewed

The Anemone Coral Reef Windows Vase by John Gibbons is inspired by the patterns and movements of the ocean. It is an original work of art. A group of sea anemones swirl up the side of the vase, surrounded by a colorful habitat of tide pool green,, amethyst, yellows and greens. The windows of the anemones are optical and change with addition of light.

The vase measures about 11.5 inches tall and 8.5 inches wide.

I am inspired by the patterns and movements of the ocean. This vase is made up of small colorful pieces that I make called murrine. Murrine are created by layering colored glass from the center outward. This layering of colors created a molten piece of glass about the size of a soup can that I stretch across the studio to create a 1/2 to 3/4 inch rod. We then put the rods in the annealing oven to cool over night. The next day we slice the rods onto 1/4 inch wafers that get laid out on a ceramic kiln shelf into a mosaic like arrangement. The wafers are heated and fused together into a rectangular piece of glass. A blowpipe is then rolled along the edge and the flat sheet of glass turns into a cylinder. The bottom gets closed off and now there is a bubble of glass on the end of my blow pipe. Three layers of molten clear and gathered onto the bubble and it is blown and shaped with the help of my assistant into the vase pictured.

This hand blown glass octopus is an electric blue speckled with a deep purple. It measures about 8.5 inches wide and 6 inches tall with sinister eyes.

Hand sculpted glass starfish. The Aqua Sahara Starfish is created with a beige and aqua color pattern on the bottom that gets magnified from the thick optical layer of clear glass on the top. This starfish has a wide variety in color patterns. 

Choose between Flat and Creeping Styles. When the glass is hot, John lets the molten glass fall over the edge of a metal table, capturing the moment when the starfish is creeping away, just like it clings to rocks in the ocean.

It is about 5" in diameter.

The Aqua Silver Vertigo Vase has spiraling aqua silver cane twisting in one direction. This creates a shuttering, or vertigo, effect. This hand blown glass vase was created by rolling aqua silver glass rods onto a bubble of molten glass and then twisting the bubble into shape. Then the vase is flattened with thick cork paddles to enhance the optics of the two opposing spirals.

This 21 inch tall aqua vase was inspired by sunken vessels from the bottom of the Mediterranean Sea. For thousands of years ships have been crossing the sea on trade routes from Roam to Athens to Cairo. The vase has been adorned with starfish, seaweed and a bit of gold leaf.

Bluish green handmade glass starfish. Measures about 5 inches wide. This Aquamarine Starfish is created with an light blue and white color pattern on the bottom that gets magnified from the thick optical layer of clear glass on the top.

These vibrant Octopus are made with tentacles curling, bulging eyes, and an individual personality. Eight legs and three hearts, who wants a hug? Each creature is a work of art and unique.

This sculpted glass sea turtle measures about 10 inches at its widest and about 14.25 inches tall. The shell and fins are made just like my starfish, with a thick layer of clear glass on top of a thin layer of organic colored glass on the bottom. I call this a barnacle back turtle, because of the 3-D barnacle like pieces of glass in the shell of the turtle. The base of the turtle is a very thick creating undulating and optical colors. I have been working with glass for 20 years and have fixated on ocean creatures for the past 10.

 

This sculpted glass sea turtle measures about 9.5 inches at its widest and about 9.5 inches tall. The shell and fins are made just like my starfish, with a thick layer of clear glass on top of a thin layer of organic colored glass on the bottom. I call this a barnacle back turtle, because of the 3-D barnacle like pieces of glass in the shell of the turtle. The base of the turtle is a very thick creating undulating and optical colors. Notice the ocean mist splashing up the side next to the starfish.

I have been working with glass for 19 years and have fixated on ocean creatures for the past 10.

Hand sculpted glass starfish. This Beachy Pink Starfish is created with a pink and white color pattern that is cheerful and inspired by the sunsets on the coast. It has a pebbly texture, so its a natural choice for a beach decor. The bottom color gets magnified from a thick optical layer of clear glass on the top.

Choose between Flat and Creeping Styles. Images are of Creeping. Flat starfish will rest on a flat surface with no legs bent over the side. Creeping starfish have two bent legs, capturing the moment when the starfish is creeping away, just like it clings to rocks in the ocean.

These are hand blown beautiful blue glass cups that I put into a mold to give a texture.

Purchase includes 2 cups.

The cups are about 6 inches in height and about 3.5 inches wide.

This large marble measures about 2.5 inches and is inspired by tube sponges in the coral reef. The colors that form the tubes in the marble are created by layering rods of glass and then stretching the rods into another rod that is then cut into short sections called murrine. After the murrine are formed, I put the coral reef together and finish off the marble in a graphite mold to give it a perfect sphere shape.
