A window into the ocean…
I love this vase; it is one of the biggest I’ve ever made. It stands 20 inches tall and about 9 inches wide. It’s very thick and very optical. Every burst of color reminiscent of a firework comes from the bottom of a vase. Every time I make a vase, I get a bit of colorful scrap that I can not part with. I saved these up, inspired by watching an Italian master make his work at the international glass convention in Seattle many years ago. I had to make about 20 vases or more just to make all the parts to make this vase. Some of the pieces are the ends of my murrine; I only get one every time I pull a murrine and then I filled in all the voids with the murrine that I make. It has a strobe like affect as you walk past it.
It could have taken years to save up all the parts for this vase until two of my friends and I decided it was time to wrestled it in the shape. I’ve been holding onto it for well over 10 years but now it’s time to let it go. It is a one of a kind vase.
