Marbles

This Coral Reef glass marble is inspired by tube sponges in the coral reef. The colors that form the tubes in the marble are created by layering rods of glass and then stretching the rods into another rod that is then cut into short sections. After the tube sponges are formed, I put the coral reef together and finish off the marble in a graphite mold to give it a perfect spherical shape.

Approximately 2 1/4 inches in diameter.

Hand blown Dichroic Galaxy glass marble. This medium-sized marble is made by using blue and green colored glass, and then adding a layer of pink dichroic glass to give it a pink shimmer. It is inspired by a spiral galaxies which contain billions of stars, gas and dust. When the glass is hot, the color and dichroic are twisted and the marble is shaped into a sphere by using a graphite mold.

This large Anemone glass marble is inspired by the sea anemones off the Northern California Coast. This marble is created by bundling rods of glass and then stretching and cutting them into short sections. These sections are then bundled together to form the center of the anemone. This process of bundling rods of glass together to form interesting patterns is called murrine. I group several murrine together, then gather a layer of clear glass to make the marble optical and appear as though the Anemone is encased in a layer of water. The marble is finished off in a graphite mold to give it a perfect spherical shape.

The color is twisted into a spiral until it forms a peak. I then use a graphite mold to shape the glass marble into a perfect sphere.

I then use glass in colors of blue , green and white to create a underwater vision. I use a graphite mold to shape the marble into a perfect sphere. This underwater barnacle circle embraces the cluster growth that mimics what happens in the ocean. This beauty is about 2 inches in size. I start by recreating barnacles into glass murrine. I use green and blue colored glass for the base and capture the feeling of water with clear glass. Finally I shape the sphere into a perfect form using a graphite mold.

This is a lucky marble that is about 2 inches in size and a wonderful charm. I start by making a four leaf clover with green and white glass into murrine. I use blue and white glass as the base, with clear glass surrounding the clover and leafs. I shape the sphere with a graphite mold into a perfect form.

This forever blooming Calla Lily is about 2.5 niches in size. I created murrine to mimic the fresh bloom captured in time. I surround the bloom with a circular pattern of glass murrine and shape the sphere into a perfect form with a graphite mold.

This whimsical marble is about 2.5 inches in size. I created a variety of murrine to represent barnacles that grow in the ocean. The murrine barnacles rest on a base of pink and white glass and clear glass is shaped to create a perfect form using a graphite mold.
