This is a hand sculpted original "Starfish Cluster" by glass artist John Gibbons.
This Starfish Cluster Vessel measures 12" tall and is 11" wide. The base is a small clear glass bowl and the stars are fused to it while it is hot. This sculpture takes John and four skilled assistants working in unison to create. Each star is created by putting a thin layer of colored glass on the back of a thick layer of clear. This technique causes the star to look wet and magnified from the clear glass. John Started this series about 10 years ago while living in San Diego. He found inspiration for his design from working with Cheque Republic glass artist and Italian Glass Sculpture Pino Signoretto.
*Bottom bowl cracked and glued with special glass epoxy.
